A Blackass Field Trip: Barbados Edition

The trip is scheduled from Wednesday, November 11 to Sunday, November 15. The total cost is $899 plus tax and fees per person with a limited number of early bird tickets for $849 plus tax and fees — using promo code «EARLY.» The total cost includes hotel accommodations, daily breakfast and/or brunch buffets, roundtrip airport shuttle and ground transportation, welcome reception with cocktails and appetizers, rum tour with tasting followed by transport to a local fish fry, cultural city tour with lunch, twilight catamaran cruise with open premium bar, dinner buffet and snorkeling with sea turtles, beachfront fitness sessions, and a giftbag with a t-shirt and tote. A Blackass Field Trip™ is an intimately curated excursion designed to educate Black people on the Black experience by exploring Black spaces across the Black diaspora that have influenced Black history.  Are early bird tickets available?  Yes, but for double occupancy rooms only. The total cost is $849 plus tax and fees for a limited time. Early bird tickets will be on sale until Wednesday, January 15 or once the allotted tickets have been sold.  How much is the deposit? The deposit for both early bird and/or regular tickets is $200 plus tax and fees.   How do I pay my remaining balance? Unless you purchased a full payment ticket, an invoice for the remaining balance of $649 plus tax and fees for early bird tickets or $699 plus tax and fees for regular tickets for a double occupancy room will be sent via PayPal invoice with a final balance due by Monday, August 31. A payment plan is available for the remaining balance which consists of 3 additional installations of $216.33 plus tax and fees for early bird tickets or $233.00 plus tax and fees for regular tickets — which is due on Thursday, April 30, Tuesday, June 30 and Monday, August 31 and will be paid via PayPal invoice which will be emailed at least 30 days prior to each installment due date.   Can I pay the full amount without a payment plan? Your ticket does not include flight as travelers are responsible for securing his or her’s own airfare to and from Barbados. The resort is not an all-inclusive property; however, daily breakfast is included.  Although lunches and dinners are not included — lunch is provided during the cultural city tour and dinner is provided during the catamaran cruise. Please note that transport is provided to the local fish fry; however, a meal is not included.  Will I be expected to donate towards gratuities and/or tips? Yes.  Please bring at least $20USD to contribute towards gratuities, tips, and/or donations that are customarily left on behalf of our group with the local community and/or vendors — which will be collected at the welcome reception. How much is a flight?  The average cost for a roundtrip flight to Barbados from Richmond, New York, and Washington, DC is approximately between $400 and $600. To purchase your flight using a payment plan, please visit  which is a Black female-owned business that allows you to book a flight with a deposit and pay the remaining balance in installments.   How do I coordinate my airport shuttle?  St. James Group will provide roundtrip transportation from the Grantley Adams International Airport [GAIA] located at Adams-Barrow, Gordon Cummins Highway, Barbados to the Infinity on the Beach Resort located at St. Lawrence Gap, Dover, Christ Church, Barbados. You must email your flight itinerary to info@ to include airline, flight number, departure airport, departure time, arrival airport, and arrival time for both inbound and inbound airfare — at least 30 days prior to the date of departure in order to secure shuttle services. You can schedule shuttle services anytime between Tuesday, November 10 through Monday, November 16 as some travelers plan to visit Barbados beyond the coordinated events from November 11 through 15. Please wait outside of your pickup location at least 5-10 minutes in advance of your shuttle pickup time. Are there any restrictions on participation? Yes. You must be at least 16 years old to attend. The trip is open to men and women, as well as people of color and allies. Please note that the average duration to process a new and/or renewed passport application is at least 6 weeks; however, there is an expedited option whereby your application can be processed at select passport centers within 2 to 6 weeks at an additional cost. The Barbados Dollar [BDS] is the local currency; however, the US Dollar [USD] is also widely accepted across the island. Please note that the island only accepts dollar bills — not coins. As of today, the exchange rate is $.50USD to $1BBD. Also, please contact your banking institution and/or credit card company to provide a travel notice and determine if foreign exchange fees will apply for debit and/or credit card transactions.   Why does the registration form require my date of birth? The registration form asks for your date of birth to determine if you meet the legal drinking age requirement — which is 18 years old — as alcohol will be served during the trip. Will someone be assigned to my room if I do not have a preferred roommate? Yes, unless you selected a single occupancy room. Gender, smoking, and snoring preference will be used to pair roommates based on compatability [if possible]. Travelers who opt for the pre-selected option should provide the full name of their preferred roommate on the registration form. Yes. The coordinated events for the trip begin on Wednesday, November 11 at 5pm and conclude on Sunday, November 15 at 11am — with several scheduled breaks for free time. Please note that ground transportation is provided for all coordinated events; however, travelers are responsible for securing his or her’s own transportation for any other activities — with taxis being the most readily available option. Additionally, the island offers public transportation — with the busfare costing approximately $1.75USD per trip.  Who are the accountability group leaders and members? The accountability group leaders and members will be provided via email at least 7 days prior to the date of departure.  What should I pack? As a friendly reminder, do not forget your passport, identification card, debit and/or credit card, medical insurance card, cash, yoga mat, beach bag, and beach towel. As it relates to electronics and entertainment, do not forget your selfie stick, headphones, book, camera, tablet, cell phone, and all corresponding chargers. As it relates to attire, do not forget your comfortable walking shoes, athletic attire, swimwear, swimshoes, swim cap, eyeglasses, and sunglasses. As it relates to toiletries, do not forget your toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, floss, body wash, louffa, deorderant, razor, shaving cream, lotion, cotton swabs, sanitary napkins, tissues, makeup supplies, hair supplies, hand sanitzer, bug repellent, medication, sunscreen, sun tanning lotion, perfume and/or cologne. As it relates to travel supplies, do not forget your luggage tags, neck pillow, blanket, ear plugs, and eye mask. What is the menu for the included meals?  The welcome reception will include your choice of cocoa bread and fish cakes — with water and rum punch. The daily breakfast will include your choice of eggs, bacon or sausage, baked beans or hash browns, pancakes, fruit, cereal, yogurt and/or toast — with water, juice, tea, and/or coffee. The farewell brunch buffet will include your choice of fish, bacon, sausage, pancakes, eggs, plantains, beans, potatoes, fruits, cereals, pastries, and/or breads — with water, juice, tea, and/or coffee.
