Susan Herbst spent 14 years at Northwestern University, joining the faculty in 1989. During her tenure teaching in the MSC program, she taught Public/Media Communications. She served as a professor of political science and communication studies, and eventually chaired the department of political science.
In 2011, she became the first female president of UConn. 
Herbst is a scholar of public opinion, media, and American politics, and is author of four books and many articles in these areas, most recently, Rude Democracy: Civility and Incivility in American Politics (2010).  Along with Benjamin Page, Lawrence Jacobs, and Adam Berinsky, she edits the University of Chicago Press series in American Politics.  She serves on the Board of Directors of the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities (APLU).Schedule5:45 - Arrival & Networking 6:00 - Dinner 7:00 - Presentation: American Politics in the Trump Era: Opinion, Media and the Future of Democracy8:30 - End
EducationHerbst received her B.A. in Political Science from Duke University, and her Ph.D. in communication theory and research from the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication in Los Angeles.
