ANA Avatar XPRIZE Info-session, District 3 Innovation Centre, Thursday, 22. November 2018

District 3 Innovation Centre invites you to the first information session on the ANA Avatar XPRIZE, a multi-million dollar international competition focused on building high-end, cutting-edge robotics.  The information session will bring together stakeholders from across the city to learn what an avatar is, competition guidelines and the resources that will be provided for you by District 3 and Montreal. 
In addition to networking, and mingling among such a diverse and creative crowd, we are also organizing three talks that will happen in the evening; the talks will be given by a current XPRIZE contestant and experts in related technological fields.

Speakers


Dr. Gregory Dudek - Member of the Centre for Intelligent Machines, Head of the Samsung Montreal AI Centre
Gregory Dudek is a Professor with the School of Computer Science and a member of the McGill Research Centre for Intelligent Machines (CIM) and an Associate member of the Dept. of Electrical Engineering at McGill University. Since 2012 he has been the Scientific Director of the NSERC Canadian Field Robotics Network (NCFRN): He is the former Director of McGill's Research Center for Intelligent Machines, a 25 year old inter-faculty research facility. In 2010 he was also awarded the Canadian Image Processing and Pattern Recognition Award for Research Excellence and also for Service to the Research Community. He directs the McGill Mobile Robotics Laboratory.
He has been on the organizing and/or program committees of Robotics: Systems and Science, the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA), the IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robotics and Systems (IROS), the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI), Computer and Robot Vision, IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and International Conference on Hands-on Intelligent Mechatronics and Automation among other bodies. He is president of CIPPRS, the Canadian Information Processing and Pattern Recognition Society, an ICPR national affiliate.





David Benrimoh MD - CEO of Aifred
David is the co-founder and CEO of Aifred Health, and a Psychiatry Resident at McGill University. David obtained his medical doctorate at McGill University and is currently doing his specialization in Psychiatry. His research focuses on computational neuroscience and applying AI to mental health. He also completed a Masters in Neuroscience focused on computational modeling of psychopathology with Dr. Karl Friston at UCL. 
AIfred is a startup which is creating a deep-learning based clinical decision tool for physicians to bring personalized medicine to psychiatry. At its core, AIfred is leveraging the collective intelligence of the scientific and medical community to bring better healthcare to all. Currently, they rank 2nd overall in the IBM Watson AI XPrize and were named winners of the Force Avenir Competition in Health. 



David Dubois - Research Engineer for Kinova
David Dubois is currently an artificial intelligence research developer at Kinova. He holds a bachelor of electrical engineering degree (2007), a master's degree (2010) and a Ph. D. (2014) of automated production engineering all from École de technologie supérieure. He is a member of Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec, IEEE and SPIE and presented his work in numerous international conferences from these and other organizations. Since February 2018, he is also an active member of the Canadian SMC for the ISO IEC JTC 1 SC 42 - Artificial intelligence standardization effort. He was recently nominated as external liaison officer from ISO IEC JTC 1 SC 42 to ISO TC 299 - Robotics.
His research interests include computed vision, artificial intelligence, process automation, service robotics and human-robot collaboration. In the past 5 years, he has started his own consulting company and worked for cutting-edge businesses in those fields. He also volunteers as a mentor for a high school Robotique FIRST Quebec team and as vice-president of the board of Réseau ÉTS the alumni association of his Alma mater.
