Novel Affair School Day is supported by more than 30 sponsor families and their contributions allow all programs to be free for schools and for local teachers to attend Novel Affair’s Saturday afternoon reception with all featured authors.

Saturday, 4/184 PM to 6:30 PM - Join all guest authors and artists for a cocktail reception and book signing at historic Shoreacres.6:45 PM Enjoy an intimate dinner featuring two of our celebrated guests in a distinctive North Shore home.


To support Ragdale, one of the oldest and largest artists’ communities in the country, that has provided creative professionals with time and space to pursue their work in an uninterrupted environment for over 40 years.  All the proceeds support the artistic and educational programs of Ragdale.


Novel Affair is curated by Ragdale Curatorial Board members and best-selling authors Rebecca Makkai, The Great Believers, The Hundred-Year House, and The Borrower, Jean Kwok, Searching for Sylvie Lee, Girl in Translation and Mambo in Chinatown and Charles Finch, bestselling author of A Beautiful Blue Death and The Last Enchantments select the authors in attendance at A Novel Affair with the support of Lake Forest Book Store.

Ragdale is a non-profit artist residency program, located in Arts and Crafts architect Howard Van Doren Shaw’s Lake Forest country estate, just 30 miles north of Chicago.  Built in 1897, the Ragdale House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  In 1976, Shaw’s granddaughter Alice Judson Hayes transformed the family’s summer home into an artists-in-residence program. Today Ragdale hosts more than 200 creative practitioners from around the world and serves students and teachers from more than 60 regional schools. For more information, www.ragdale.org
