Ashburn Youth Symphonic Orchestras 2019-2020, Mills Rec Center or Broad Run HS, Monday, 09. September 2019

Ashburn Youth Symphonic Orchestras (AYSO), an educational and performance program, is open to young musicians ages of 5 and 19. Its mission is to combine and strengthen the abilities of orchestra and band students and offer them an opportunity to create beautiful music in a new setting: a symphony orchestra!
The 2019-2020 season, consists of 3 concert sessions. Students may register per concert session and are encouraged to participate in all three. Past members (all instruments) and new string players may proceed straight to registration and audition only for placement. New woodwind, brass and percussion students must have an approved audition in order to register. New student auditions will be held at the beginning of each concert session, depending on positions available in each orchestra. Tuition per concert session is $125, a special discount is available ($300 total) when registering to all 3 concert sessions in the Fall. Tuition is non-refundable after the first week of the session, and cannot be prorated for late registration. Need-based scholarships are available.  If recommended by the conductor or mentors, students may re-audition after a concert session to be considered for a new level orchestra. LCPS and FCPS students must be participating in their school music program as available.
AYSO has openings for brass, woodwinds, string and percussion players.  Participating students must provide their own instruments and bring music stands.
Placement auditions requirement: 2-3 minute prepared solo demonstrating the student's level of proficiency in the instrument (it may be an orchestra or band excerpt) and sight-reading.
Through our mentorship program, the most advanced and experienced instrumentalists are also available to mentor beginner and intermediate students. Information about mentors will be provided to all registered musicians. High school juniors and seniors may apply to be mentors. If qualified, a full scholarship to the program will be offered. Mentors MUST be available to assist in rehearsals as needed.
The AYSO ensembles rehearse on Monday afternoons (4-9pm). Rehearsal time for each musician will be determined by placement in specific group.
REHEARSALS are held at Mills Recreation Center, at River Creek Presbyterian Church or at Broad Run High School in Ashburn.
Auditions for concert session I: Monday, September 9, 5-8pm, at Mills Recreation Center (43895 Grottoes Dr. Ashburn, VA 20147) and by appointment.
 Concert session I: September-December
Concert session II: January-March
Concert session III: April-June
This program is brought to you by YOUTH MUSIC PRESERVATION AND PROMOTION ASSOCIATION (YMPPA), a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization established in Leesburg in December 2003, with the mission of promoting, supporting, sponsoring and organizing music programs for children and youth. The YMPPA programs are modeled after the Venezuelan System of Youth Orchestras, which has proved that music can be an effective way to create change for the better in society. Special thanks to LCPS Music Supervisor, Mr. Michael Pierson, Mrs. Elaine Stanford; and to all LCPS orchestra and band teachers for their support of the AYSO.
