Atlas Obscura Society D.C.: Taste George Washington's Whiskey , George Washington’s Gristmill and Distillery, Saturday, 09. March 2019

George Washington was a war hero, the father of our country, and America's first president. He was also one of the nation's largest whiskey distillers. Located about three miles west of his mansion at Mount Vernon, Washington’s commercial distillery opened in 1798 and in the following year produced nearly 11,000 gallons of whiskey!
Join us as we spend the late morning learning—and, yes, tasting—this unique (and profitable) aspect of George Washington’s life. Our adventure will include a guided tour of Mount Vernon’s gristmill, watching the gears turn and still grind the grains used in the estate’s whiskey production. We will also go into the distillery to discuss the science and technology of 18th-century distilling. Then, we will have the opportunity to sip rye whiskey made from the general’s own historic recipe.
Your ticket also includes admission to Mount Vernon Estate, Museum, and Education Center, so make a day of it!

All attendees must be at least 21 years old and have a valid, government-issued ID.
This location isn't easily accessible via public transportation, though there are buses available from the Huntington metro stop on the yellow line.
Free parking is available at the distillery.
There are only 15 spots available for this exclusive event, so space is limited.
