Brazilian Zouk Leader's & Follower's Technique w/ Alisson Sandi, DanceSport Dupont Circle, Saturday, 10. August 2019

To Lead and to Follow, equally complex art in motion.

We're offering two 8-week series on Saturdays from August through September with Alisson Sandi to focus on Leader's and Follower's technique for Brazilian zouk.

As a leader, we are mostly in charge of the course of the journey, guiding our followers in each dance. Having the best car does not mean you will win the race, unless you have amazing skills. In this class, we will work on the essentials for every leader to make the most of every dance, and to be the one everyone wants to dance with! Through this series, you will learn how to understand your body and how it affects your follower. The secret of being your best at leading is to have as many tools as possible so you can be ready for any situation at all times, to enhance a movement or protect your partner. Then once it all comes together, both of you can enjoy the blissful feeling of partner at DanceSport Dupont Circle (plus one Sunday)1:00-2:30pmAugust 10 - October 26 (see dates below)

The first hour of the class will focus on solo movement, technique and practice. Followers will join for the last 30 minutes of the class so we can practice applying what you have been working on while dancing with a partner.

To follow can be one of the best feelings in the world when your body has internalized the technique and you can let go and find flow. To get to that meditative state, though, one needs to understand how your body moves and how it needs to move in this dance. Followers are equally in charge for each moment in the journey of a dance. Just as in a regular conversation, it is important for both to listen and respond in the moment . A lot of the technical skills, footwork and body awareness for following can be developed through solo practice. The secret to being your best following is to have as many tools as possible so you can be ready for any situation, to enhance a movement or to protect yourself or your at DanceSport Dupont Circle (plus one Sunday)2:00-3:30pmAugust 10 - October 26 (see dates below)
The first 30 minutes of the class will be with leaders. The last hour of the class will focus on solo movement, technique and practice.

Each week will bring a new topic, building on what we learned on the previous week. Topics will include:● Footwork - drills that will help build proper muscle memory for your dancing● Leading and Following techniques - connection principles, body contact, leverage and extension● Posture - how your posture changes the technique and moves● Body Movement - drills to make your body speak ‘Brazilian Zouk’

Pre-requisites: We recommend that participants in this class should be comfortable with Brazilian zouk fundamentals, including basic steps, lateral, and simple turns.
