Bria Skonberg - PAC the House Series, The Hackensack Performing Arts Center, Saturday, 18. April 2020

New York based trumpeter and vocalist, Bria Skonberg, has been described by The Wall Street Journal as, “one of the most versatile and imposing musicians of her generation.” Linking the present and past by playing inventive arrangements of traditional jazz, clever reinterpretations of contemporary classics and original compositions close to the heart, Skonberg’s style is marked by her dynamic flair and truly unique voice. A highly sought-out performer and educator, Bria represents Jazz at Lincoln Center in schools, is co-director of the New York Hot Jazz camp and is currently creating original educational programming for the Louis Armstrong House Museum.
She has performed the music of Aretha Franklin alongside Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child, played with U2 at the Apollo, sat in with the Dave Matthews Band, has appeared as a featured guest with John Batiste and carried out the Star Spangled Banner at Madison Square Garden. Bria recently appeared on a month-long tour as a featured member of the 2019 Monterey Jazz Festival Touring Band alongside Cecile McLorin Salvant, Jamison Ross, Melissa Aldana, and Christian Sands. Amongst her long list of accomplishments, Bria is a 2017 Juno Award Winner for Best Vocal Jazz Album, has certified top-five hits on the Billboard Music jazz charts, voted #2 Rising Star by Downbeat Magazine, has organically earned over 25K online followers and over 6 million streams on Spotify.
Bria Skonberg’s latest recording project, produced by Grammy-winner Eli Wolf, prominently features compelling songwriting skills alongside creative covers from Queen and a Beatles/Duke Ellington mashup. A voice for this generation, Bria’s fiery trumpet and smoky vocals help her deliver hits on the contemporary subjects of women’s rights, civil rights, frustration, despair and hope through an overarching theme of, “finding light in the darkness.”
Rounding out the 2019/2020 PAC the House Season, we’re delighted to have Bria Skonberg take the stage at the HACPAC!
