Tour Mauna Kea Cacao's award-winning cacao farm and taste Hawaiian cacao and chocolate. You'll see a working cacao farm with 1,800 cacao trees and learn how cacao is grown, harvested, fermented and dried. View our micro-batch chocolate making equipment. Then taste Mauna Kea Cacao's craft chocolate and compare it to chocolate made from our cacao by other premier bean-to-bar artisans.
The tour will include a 1/2-mile walk to the orchard with several stops along the way to see post-harvest processing areas. Crack open a cacao pod and taste fresh cacao (an amazing on-the-farm experience)! Learn what makes Hawaiian cacao and chocolate uniquely wonderful. The tour and chocolate tasting last approximately 90 minutes.
Mauna Kea Cacao is located on the beautiful Hamakua Coast about 10 miles north of Hilo. The farm is on a paved road, 1 mile off of Highway 19 between the north end of the 4-Mile Scenic Route and Akaka Falls. Add a "chocolate stop" to your Hamakua Coast adventure.

Reservations are required and must be purchased at least 2 hours prior to the tour. Reserve early! Space is limited to 15 guests per tour. Please plan to arrive 15 minutes before tour start time so that we can begin tours promptly. Guests will sign liability waivers before the tour.
How do I get to the farm?
The farm address and directions will be included in the email confirming your reservation. The farm is located about 10 miles north of Hilo. Gates open 20 minutes before the tour.
What are the walking conditions?
This tour is best for people who can easily walk 1/2 mile over uneven surfaces that may be wet, muddy and/or slippery. The farm has rolling terrain.
What if it rains?
Weather is changeable and rain may occur at any time. Tour times tend to be drier times of day. Tours continue during rain and shelters are provided at three locations before and during the tour. Your tour guide may lengthen the chocolate tasting segment of the tour during wet weather.
What should I bring with me?
Closed-toe shoes, hats, rain jackets or umbrellas, sunscreen and insect repellant are recommended.
Is this tour appropriate for children?
We love to share our farm with children. For safety purposes, children should follow instructions and stay near their parents.Strollers are not recommended.
What is the cancellation policy?
Reservations may be cancelled using Eventbrite no later than 24 hours before the scheduled tour time to receive a full refund. Refunds for cancellations less than 24 hours before the tour may be requested by contacting us at least 2 hours before the tour begins. Mauna Kea Cacao reserves the right to cancel tours due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances; payment will be refunded if this occurs.
