Eyes Above the Horizon is designed to inspire youth to reach beyond their familiar circumstances. This program gives under-represented and minority youth an opportunity to develop and foster an interest in aerospace careers through flight introductions, mentorship, and immersion into the rich history and LEGACY of the Tuskegee Airmen.
No previous aviation experience is necessary. Student registration is FREE, however parental permission is required prior to participate. Saturday’s activities include: • An incentive flight in a USAF C-130 Aircraft • Academic instruction in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) • Lunch • A keynote speaker • Mentorship with various aviation professionals

1. Question: How much will it cost for students to participate in Eyes Above the Horizon?
Answer: ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Our goal at Legacy Flight Academy (LFA) is to relieve parents of the financial burden participation may cost. Students and parents have the option of brining money to purchase wonderful keep-sakes/souvenirs that will be made available on the day of the event.
2. Question: Will students have to bring money for food?
Answer: Students do not have to bring money for food as lunch will be provided to them. Students can bring their personal snacks to be eaten in designated areas. To ensure there is enough food, parents will not be provided lunch.
3. Question: What if my student is unable to participate the entire day?
Answer: Students MUST be available the entire day.
4. Question: What should my student leave at home?
Answer: Students should not bring cell phones, FitBits, iWatches etc. (Students will be entering some secure areas on base where smart items are not permitted)
5. Question: How does the event-day Check-In/Check-Out Process work?
Answer: Students MUST register in advance via eventbrite. The day of the event, parents/legal guardians will have to be present to check-in their child. Check-in begins at 8:00 AM and ends at 8:30 AM. Once the student is signed-in, they will be given their assigned group and will stay in that group until their parent/legal guardian(s) signs him/her out. In order to ensure the safety/accountability of all students, parents MUST sign-out their child! At sign-out, adults must present a photo ID. The event ends at 4:00 PM.
6. Question: My student has a friend/family member who will be attending as well. Can they be assigned to the same group?
Answer: There is no guarantee that students will be placed in the same group as their friends or family members. Students are separated into four different groups based on age and their assigned chaperone/group leader is supplied with all their emergency contact information. As this process is the best way we can ensure the safety and accountability of student participants, we will not be accommodating last minute requests for group swaps.
7. Question: Will transportation be provided?
Answer: LFA does not have the means to provide transportation to student participants. We encourage adults to car-pool or make use of their community resources
The designated drop-off and pickup point will be the VFW Post 6873 (1049 Veterans Dr. Abilene, TX 79605).
8. Question: What should participants wear?
Answer: CAP/JROTC/ROTC students should come in uniform.
9. Question: What about inclement weather?
Answer: LFA holds safety as the number one priority. As Eyes Above the Horizon is a weather-dependent event, we carefully monitor the weather forecast to ensure we have safe and successful flights. The event will still take place regardless of weather. The kids will still gain a tremendous amount from the various activities we have planned. We will fly as weather permits.
