CLASSIC THREE night one :: AFT covers REMAIN IN LIGHT / Talking Heads, El-Rocko Lounge, Friday, 13. September 2019

Throughout September, El Rocko and A Fragile Tomorrow have teamed up for CLASSIC THREE, a residency covering three influential albums not often heard live.
Night One, AFT has chosen to cover Talking Heads' Remain in Light... the product of visionaries David Byrne and Brian Eno, RiL fused of Afro-beat, NYC post-punk, American jazz, and Fela Kuti-funk to a shocking affect. Pitchfork writes, "The success of Remain in Light—undeniable regardless of our ideas about the degree to which artists should respect historically ethnic divisions between musical forms—forces us to reckon with the album’s contradictions. Rock is a more welcoming genre today than it was in 1980, and punk has never seemed closer to the perennial danger that it will become a parody of itself. Still, it is hard to imagine a current underground rock band like Joyce Manor taking a turn toward the music of the Nigerian Afropop star Davido without getting laughed into oblivion. The fact that Talking Heads pulled it off so spectacularly, even 38 years ago, is a tribute to their aptitude as students of music.
A Fragile Tomorrow is band from Savannah, GA. The quasi-psych pop act, with members who showcase their talents at local music studio Low Watt Recording, has worked tirelessly to properly perform these songs. A set of AFT originals will start out each evening. Listen the their latest record, Generation Loss, below.
