Conversations For Women: #MeToo, Chicago, Monday, 29. April 2019

“#metoo” entered the vernacular quietly at first, in 2006. Tarana Burke created a campaign on MySpace to “empower through empathy” women of color who had experienced sexual assault or harassment. Then in 2017 the expression caught fire, as women stepped forward to share their experiences, and the secret prevalence of sexual violence became a public conversation.
This has been a time of healing for a lot of women, but for many it’s been a time of trauma. All of our resilience and strength is great – but having to revisit things we might prefer to forget has been an unwelcome task. And of course, a catch phrase doesn’t end sexual harassment, and a movement doesn’t end sexual violence.  There are still miles to go.
Join us in April for a Conversation about #MeToo. The space is safe, whether you are feeling fine, fragile, or angry.

P.S. A reminder, this event is open to women-identifying people only. Advanced ticketing is required and seating is limited.
