Dharma Calligraphy - Create Your Own Scroll, Sacramento Dharma Center, Saturday, 01. June 2019

You are invited to participate in a Dharma calligraphy workshop lead by Rev. Val Szymanski, Zen teacher and master calligrapher.  Rev. Szymanski is head priest at Bamboo in the Wind Zen Center, Sunnyvale.
Rev. Szymanski describes the workshop:  "We will explore integrating our Buddhist practice with brush calligraphy in English and Chinese.  As a Buddhist teacher, I have found words or phrases that speak directly to me, like a flash of lightning in the moment.  Capturing these words affords one the opportunity for writing, meditation, and displaying them in everyday life.  The brush will be used to write selected English words and phrases, and/or Chinese characters; phrases that will be the backdrop for your individual compositions.  Participants will be introduced to multiple Chinese scripts; Seal, Clerical, Standard and Grass to choose from for your scroll.  By the end of the day students will have created a piece expressing Buddhadharma."
Supplies will be provided - cost for supplies is $6.00
Please bring your own lunch.
Registration fee:  $20-$65 - scholarships available
Class size limited to 20.
