Down in Houston: Gallery Exhibit Opening7pm-8:30pm Texas Folklife Gallery 1708 Houston St / Austin, TX 78756 FREE with RSVP
Texas Folklife invites you to join us for an exhibit opening of "Down in Houston" at the Texas Folklife Gallery.  This exhibit features photography by James Fraher and text by Roger Wood who have been documenting the blues in Houston since 1995 in their book "Down in Houston: Bayou City Blues." Their work tells the story of the musicians who gave voice to a working-class community, a still ongoing conversation about good times and hard times, smokin' Saturday nights and blue Mondays. The event will also feature a live blues band and commentary by exhibit curators.  We hope you will join us for a taste of Bayou City Blues at the Texas Folklife Gallery! Learn more about the "Down in Houston" exhibit here: Information: Parking is available in Texas Folklife's gravel driveway, on street immediately in front of building, and Asterra Properties (located next door). Overflow parking available at Recycled Reads (5335 Burnet Rd). Please use spaces in the back or on the south side of the Recycled Reads building. This event and exhibit are made possible in part by the board and members of Texas Folklife, and by grants from the Texas Commission on the Arts with an award from the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art, and the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
