Eat Local, Grow Local Series: Urban Homesteading Workshop Series, 1641 Portland Avenue, Monday, 04. March 2019

The Urban Homesteading Workshop Series provides an introduction to a lifestyle of self-sufficiency in home-grown food production and preservation of food for people living in an urban environment.
This is a 10-month course, not individual classes. Classes are held twice a month beginning in March and ending in October. The series concludes with a celebration potluck dinner for the participants. Participants will rotate through several mini-workshops and participate in guided discussions about topics related to each month’s theme.
Course dates:
March 4 and 18, April 1 and 15, May 6 and 20, June 3 and 17, July 1 and 15, August 5 and 19 (Tour Date - Aug. 31), September TBD (canning month), October 7 and 21, October 28 - Potluck

Session 7: Backyard Chickens
Session 7: Urban Farm Tour
Session 8: Food Preservation*
Session 9: Perennial Crops*
Potluck Dinner Program Celebration*
Those attending will be eligible to achieve an urban homesteader certificate. Participants who meet the requirements listed below will be Certified Urban Homesteaders:

Participants must attend 9 of 17 classes including the 7 classes denoted with an asterisk* in the description. Option: Participants may choose between the Backyard Bees OR Chickens class.

Complete site plan and personal goals.

Complete both program evaluations.

Instructors for this workshop series are representatives from Jefferson County Extension Services, Jefferson County Soil and Water Conservation District and other local experts. It is being hosted at Louisville Grows:Healthy House office in the historic Portland neighborhood of Louisville, KY. The entire series is offered at a discounted rate of $100 through December 31. Registration after December 31st is $150. Class sizes are limited to 25 participants. Financial assistance is available to those in need.
