Eat Together: A Meal for the Longest Night of the Year, Black Lab, Friday, 21. December 2018

"The people walking in darkness have seen a great light. Those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them the light has shined." Isaiah 9:2
Christians were not the first to talk about light in the depths of winter. Cultures across the world gathered together in the winter darkenss to tell stories of the coming dawn and the return of spring. Christians did, though, add their own unique twist: the darkness was the isolation and separation of humans from each other and God. The light was nothing less than the presence of God, disrupting the darkness to reconcile the world to himself.
In this gastrochurch, we're going to have a conversation about light, darkness, loneliness, community, and what Christmas has to do with any of it. If stepping back from the hubub of the season and having a quiet conversation in a British pub sounds good to you, you'll love this gathering. Bring yourself and your story as we eat together on the longest night of the year.
Logistically, this gathering is going to be a bit different. We're going to be at the Black Lab, so we'll be eating their food instead of cooking our own. We'll be doing the gastrochurch-style conversation, but you'll be ordering what you'd like at the tables. (You can find their menu here.)

What exactly is gastrochurch?
Dinner, drinks, and spiritual conversation. Our topics are explored from a Christian worldview (hence the "church" in gastrochurch), but all worldviews are welcome. If you're interested in connecting with real people over things that really matter in your life, gastrochurch is for you. If you want more information, or a general sense of what the gatherings are like, check out .

Does this cost anything?
At this gathering you'll be ordering your own meal, so you can keep dinner within your own price constraints.
Can I bring friends?
Absolutely. Brings friends, neighbors, random people you meet on the train, and your second cousin you never talk to. Just make sure to register for the appropriate number of tickets so we know how many to prepare for.
How long will it last?
Our dinners last 2-2.5 hrs, depending on how much people talk. Part of the intention behind gastrochurch is to serve slow food, in every sense of the term. There aren't many times in our society when people spend two hours around the table anymore, and we think that's a shame.
