About this Event

Food for Life* Your Body In Balance

Did you know that certain foods can cause your body to produce more hormones or that some foods help you eliminate excess hormones? Do you know the difference and why?

Food for Life Your Body in Balance explains the latest research and offers a plant-based approach to treating and preventing…even curing most common health issues. Class Information:

These classes are held online (Zoom) and begin Monday, October 5, 2020. Each class will include a “cook-along” where participants will be preparing their lunch during the class and learning helpful cooking hints and techniques. Co-sponsored by Chat & Chew More Plants and the City of Winter Haven, the cost of the 4-week program is $50 per person. Please register on Eventbrite or call 863-660-8588 for more information. Class size is limited.

Weekly topics are as follows:Week 1 - Tackling Hormone-Related Cancers
October 5th - 11am to 1pm

Certain cancers are significantly affected by hormones: breast, uterine, and ovarian cancer in women and prostate and testicular cancer in men. We can help regulate our hormones with the foods we eat. This class will focus on low-fat, high-fiber foods to reduce the risk for cancer and help enhance survival for those who have been diagnosed.

Week 2 - Combating Vascular Disease
October 12 - 11am to 1pm

Plaque build-up caused by saturated fat, sedentary lifestyle and smoking causes damage to the arteries in our body. This may result in impotence, and can affect arteries to the heart, brain, and the rest of the body. To reverse ED, one can follow the same steps used to reverse artery disease: a plant-based diet, moderate exercise, stress management, and no tobacco. This class will lead participants through these steps, focusing on the plant-based diet and how to cook delicious, filling, plant-based meals.

Week 3 - Improving Mood with Food
October 19 - 11am to 1pm

Evidence suggests that foods can help conquer moodiness and more serious mood problems such as anxiety and depression. Studies show a dramatic improvement in depression with a plant-based diet. This may happen because inflammatory foods such as dairy, meat, and eggs may trigger chemical changes in the brain. Furthermore, fruits and vegetables are anti-inflammatory. Another potential mechanism is the high-fiber content of a plant-based diet. Fiber fosters healthy gut bacteria, which release short-chain fatty acids that appear to have favorable effects in the brain. In addition to eating a plant-based diet, it is helpful to exercise regularly and get plenty of sleep.

Week 4 - Avoiding Environmental Chemicals
October 26 - 11am to 1pm

This class reviews common chemical exposures and how to avoid them to keep you and your family safe. Common chemicals addressed include BPA, phthalates, pesticides, and hormones. Practical tips are provided for limiting exposure to these chemicals including eating plant-based foods.
