Jr. Master Gardener Program 2019, USU Botanical Center - Edible Demonstration Garden, Tuesday, 09. July 2019

The Jr. Master Gardener Program is designed to get kids outside, exploring nature, and learning all about how plants grow. Participants will spend three sessions learning all about plants, soils, leaves, and how plants produce healthy foods.
New for 2019 is the "Farmer for a Day" portion of the program. Kids will get the opportunity to interact with and learn how to care for farm animals such as sheep, chickens, goats, and a mini horse or donkey.
This program is for youth ages 8-12 and consists of hands-on learning in the USU Botanical Center's Edible Demonstration Garden over four consecutive days (July 9th,10th,11th,12th) from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. Please come dressed to play in the dirt and sun and have some fun.  
DAY 1: Introduction to plants

Plant dissection and identification of plant parts
Making seed tape
Hayride tour of the USU Botanical Center
Plant identification in the Edible Demonstration Garden

 DAY 2: How plants grow and photosynthesis

How plants move water
All about soil
Leaf scavenger hunt and art project
All about insects and bees

 DAY 3: Harvest and healthy choices

Healthy food choices game
Harvest food from the Edible Demonstration Garden
Blender bike salsa

DAY 4: Farmer for a day

Introduction and interaction with different animals
Animals include: bunnies, chickens, goats, sheep, and a mini horse/donkey
