Medical Legal Partnerships: How Legal Health Contributes to Overall Health
The Carrico Center continues its popular Law Over Lunch CLE series with a program that explores an emerging area of access to justice practice: the medical legal partnership.
When a patient presents in a healthcare office with medical needs, diagnostics are performed and treatment prescribed to hasten the patient toward wellness. However, there are times when a patient’s condition is exacerbated by a situation that cannot be found in a chart, e.g., housing conditions, special educational needs, accessing public benefits. Within this sphere, the foundation of a medical legal partnership is formed – connecting with individuals in the healthcare setting to assess legal needs and provide counsel. Allison Held, VCU Health’s Associate General Counsel for Medical-Legal Partnerships, and Jasmine McKinney, Staff Attorney for Central Virginia Legal Aid Society, will share how access to healthcare and legal care in the same setting can improve access to justice.
1.5 MCLE credits pending.
