Learn to Code Denver: Functional Programming in JavaScript, Galvanize (Platte St), Saturday, 12. December 2020

Whether you’re brand new to coding or are preparing for admission into a software engineering immersive, our Learn to Code series is designed for you to learn the basics of HTML, CSS, Computer Science, and JavaScript as well as dive into more advanced topics like Functional Programming and Recursion. Our instructors are carefully selected to give you the best experience possible in a fun, hands-on learning environment. Instructors provide a thoughtful blend of lectures, code-alongs, and study hall sessions.

At this workshop you will solidify your understanding of the functional programming paradigm as applied in JavaScript. Snacks and drinks will be provided!

Topics covered:

The philosophy of different programming paradigms: Imperative (e.g. OOP) vs. Declarative (e.g. FP)

Core concepts in Functional Programming: side effects, pure functions, function composition via higher-order functions, immutability, functors

JavaScript Native Array Methods

Who this workshop is for:

This workshop is for budding developers with a couple months of JavaScript experience.


Hard Requirement: Understanding of Conditionals, Objects, Arrays, Loops & Functions

Strongly Recommended: First five chapters of Eloquent JavaScript (eloquentjavascript.net)

What to bring:

Students will need to bring their own laptops! Windows, Mac or Linux will do it!
