Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. This 8-hour training gives people the skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to people who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care. WHAT THE TRAINING COVERS The course introduces common mental health challenges, teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders. The course will teach you how to apply the ALGEE action plan: • Assess for risk of ******* or harm • Listen nonjudgmentally • Give reassurance and information • Encourage appropriate professional help • Encourage self-help and other support strategies FAQs Will CEUs be available? Eight Social Work CEUs will be available to participants that attend the training in entirety. Is there a minimum age requirement to attend the training? Participants must be 18 years of age. What should I bring into the event? Beverages and Food WILL NOT be provided as a part of this training.
