Palmetto Bug Stomp 2020: hosted by Charleston Folk!

Announcing Palmetto Bug Stomp! April 17-19, 2020                              Nils Fredland  and  Notorious                       Charlotte Crittenden and Tea&Whiskey! We have a killer caller combo this year!! The legendary Nils Fredland will be on the mic along with the most delightful Charlotte Crittenden!! Great callers like this demand great bands, and we’ve got that too! We are so lucky to have the foot-stomping good time known collectively as Notorious, together with Charleston’s very own Tea&Whiskey! To make sure you catch every note and every syllable, we will have Ed Howe and the Sound of Perfection crew mixing the music and the voices for a seamless sonic experience. We are also pleased to announce some exciting new additions to Palmetto Bug Stomp for this year!! What’s new? Our venue! We’re moving our show to a local auditorium which provides a larger dance space so we can potentially fit in more of our friends! In addition to a larger wood dance floor and a large stage: there is also a balcony for observing, resting, and storing dance bags; a kitchen; classrooms for workshops as needed; and a giant amount of free parking. The works!  It is also centrally located, closer to downtown Charleston, and with easy access. There are also nearby eateries within walking distance. What has not changed? Our commitment to providing our Bug Stomp dancers with the best possible dance experience, including incredible talent and an awesome community of dancers. (Meaning you!!) That being said, PBS has been selling out faster and faster every year, so please do not wait to sign up! We want all of our Bug Stomp dance community to be able to attend, and we are honored each year to have some new members! We will work to find housing with local dancers on a first-come, first-served basis. That’s right: free housing in beautiful Charleston, SC, while supplies last. See below for more details. Early bird prices until February 28th!  FAQs 1) Can you help me find a place to stay?Housing is generously provided by local dancers, depending on availability. Failing that, Charleston is a tourist town with a bewildering array of hotel options at all price points, and we can recommend some places and campgrounds as well. Get your tickets first, then contact us at palmettobugstomp@ inquire. 2) Do you have any volunteer opportunities? If you’re looking for a cheaper option and you’re willing to work, we have some volunteer slots available. In exchange for a mega-cheap ticket (just $45!) you will be expected to work 8 hours throughout the dance weekend. To apply, please contact our volunteer coordinator, Kelly Macklin, at  Kjpenni@gmail.com. 3) Is this dance gender-balanced? (Meaning attempting to have equal numbers of male and female dancers). By overwhelming demand, The Palmetto Bug Stomp attempts to be a gender-balanced event. Sign up with a partner to avoid being waitlisted. 4) Can I buy tickets just for Friday or Saturday night dance? Unfortunately, that is not an option. But feel free to come to any of our monthly dances from our Facebook or Charleston Folk website! 5) I signed up for the dance, but now I cannot attend. Do you offer refunds? So sorry to hear that! You sure are missing out! Our refund policy states we charge a $15 cancellation fee for refunds. After March 1, 2020, we will not offer a refund unless there is a waiting list. After April 10, 2020, we do not offer refunds for any reason. For cancellations, contact us at palmettobugstomp@ we will do our best to forge a fair outcome for all concerned. 6) Is this open to the public? I have a friend who really wants to try is a full-weekend, high-level dance geared toward experienced dancers. Beginners will have a much better time at our bi-monthly Friday dances instead: find us on Facebook or the Charleston Folk website to find out more information. 7) Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?
