PhoRTE SLP Training Workshop in Denver, CO, October 5-6, 2019, University of Colorado, Saturday, 05. October 2019

PhoRTE - Strong Voice. Vibrant Life.
A “How To” Workshop for Speech-Language Pathologists
This 1.5-day workshop (with over 5 hours of hands-on practice) on Phonation Resistance Training Exercises (PhoRTE) voice therapy will utilize Socratic case-based learning, live demonstrations, and hands on opportunities to train clinicians in the execution of PhoRTE to treat vocal aging (i.e., presbyphonia). PhoRTE is the only Level 1B voice therapy to treat presbyphonia (that is, published prospective, randomized, and controlled clinical trial). This intervention is guided by the principles of exercise physiology and motor learning with a strong emphasis on understanding the values of successful aging to promote communication, socialization, and vocation in our older ***** population. We are excited to collaborate in hosting this workshop with Assistant Professor Julianna Litts, M.A., CCC-SLP from the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Colorado's Anschutz Medical Campus.
Following completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:
1)    Identify aspects of presbyphonia and the impact of aging on voice production.
2)    Identify appropriate candidates for PhoRTE voice therapy.
3)    Demonstrate ability to perform vocal intensity measures for establishing PhoRTE loudness targets.
4)    Demonstrate the PhoRTE intervention to achieve optimal outcomes in presbyphonia.
This workshop is offered for 1.15 ASHA CEUs, intermediate level, professional area.

Confirmation will be sent by e-mail upon registering for the workshop on EventBrite. Registrants will be sent all handouts in advance of the workshop electronically. To assure proper delivery of workshop materials, a valid and accurate email address must be provided at the time of registration on EventBrite. A printed copy of handouts will not be provided at the workshop. Participants should plan to bring a laptop or tablet to access handouts during the workshop.
We are not offering a webinar at this time. An important part of this workshop is the hands-on practice. We are brainstorming about how hands-on practice can occur in an online format to use in future workshops.
