This workshop meets three of four Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s qualifications: (1) Maintain professional competency; (2) increase professional knowledge and skills; and, (3) prepare for new roles and responsibilities in the practice of counseling or therapy. Participants will progress through modules designed to enhance knowledge in order to prevent deficiencies in clinical practice and entrepreneurial roles.
This is a participatory workshop that is intended to help guide all participants to a better understanding and to address questions in professional development surrounding private practice building.

Is private practice for you? What is your niche? Who is your ideal client?

Understanding of the ethical, legal (e.g., federal; statutory), and educational requirements for owning a private practice in the D.C. Metropolitan region.

How to activate self-care when the demand for services is high.

Identify common situations in record keeping and insurance billing which are not taught in graduate school programs; sample claim submission will be reviewed.

Participants will be able to apply an understanding of their needs as prospective business owners and as wards of service to deduce an educated decision to start a private practice.
