Q&A with Airbnb's Benjamin Earl Evans , Work & Co, Wednesday, 24. July 2019

With 400+ million guests in the past decade, Airbnb has transformed the way people travel, connect with, and explore new parts of the world.
To better embrace the incredible diversity of its users and hosts, the company has been at the forefront of investing in inclusive design — in essence, helping ensure your products can serve as many people as possible.
Benjamin Evans is the head of Airbnb’s inclusive design practice. He leads a cross-functional product team dedicated to solving problems like racism, sexism, accessibility and other biases. While many companies are focused on diversity and inclusion, few have been at the forefront like Airbnb, carving out a role expressly for the purpose of combating bias through design. Evans is also rare in his expertise: he brings more than a decade of advocating for a diverse user base and challenging product teams to eliminate biases and broaden their understanding of who their users are.
On Wednesday, July 24, we’ll go behind the scenes with Evans to learn how design is impacting new product features and helping Airbnb meet its social responsibility goals.
He will be joined in conversation by Work & Co Design Partner, Jessica Bauer-Greene. Jessica is known for a successful Brooklyn-based design firm she led prior to moving West. She’s led design at agencies, partnering with clients such as Nike, Hulu, Chase. And in her time at Work & Co, Jessica has led engagements with Planned Parenthood to help ensure equal access to women's healthcare.
Together, Benjamin and Jessica will explore the challenges of designing for an ever-broadening user base and offer guidance for implementing inclusive design practices within your own organization. RSVP to join us on July 24 for a lively Q&A —plus drinks and bites— at Work & Co’s Portland office.
