Catalyst Network of Communities presents its third Repair & Share Fair, a quarterly waste diversion initiative for neighborly sharing and community repair.

At the Repair & Share Fairs, handy neighbors volunteer to fix clothing, toys, appliances, and more. The Fair will also feature a special shopping day at the on-site Whittier Free Store, where everything is 100% off; a creative reuse art activity; a civil discourse workshop; and, free tacos.

Deezmaker 3D Printers & Makerspace (San Dimas, CA) will host 3D printer demonstrations at the Fair that show how missing and broken parts of appliances and toys can be replaced, saving otherwise usable items from the landfill. The Whittier Free Store's 3D printer was purchased using grant funding awarded for the quarterly Repair & Share Fairs and the Artisan Work Lab creative reuse maker space (opens 2017).

Catalyst is the sole recipient of the GriffinHarte Foundation’s 2016-17 civil discourse grant, which funds the quarterly Fair’s workshops for community repair. This innovative approach is intended to help restore civility and neighborly respect in a world where discourse is undermined by divisive issues.

“The Fairs aren’t just about fixing broken objects,” Catalyst Regional Director Megan Hobza says. “Community repair is about ending throwaway culture and healing our divided community. A better world is possible when we come together and share our stuff and ourselves.”
