Rhonda Magee: The Inner Work of Racial Justice, Kepler's Books, Tuesday, 28. January 2020

To care about the world today is to admit: racial bias exists all around us. Even for those who attempt active anti-racism, culture instills ideas that can subconsciously drive personal actions, and racism contributes to the structure of the world we live in. So how do we combat racism? How do we survive it?
Professor Rhonda Magee of UCSF brings several years of training in mindfulness-based stress reduction to the question of racial justice. To heal the world and ourselves—whether surviving the trauma of racism, or trying to loosen its hold on our own actions and overall society—Magee demonstrates the effectiveness of an unexpected technique. Mindfulness, because it allows us to notice our thinking and the underlying structures of the world, has the powerful potential to change personal behavior, shift the culture, and protect individuals against the harms of daily experienced racism.
Magee shows us how this January, sharing the specific techniques of anti-racist mindfulness that can help to heal communities. With a major political season on the close horizon this 2020, why delay? Join Magee at Kepler’s to begin the work now.
