SBN Roundtable: Inclusive Growth Strategy

The Entrepreneurs’ Roundtable is an intentionally intimate monthly members-only issue-based breakfast conversation created to connect local independent businesses, elected officials and other key decision makers in the city, region, and state. This September, join SBN as we welcome Sylvie Gallier-Howard from the Department of Commerce, and Eleanor Sharpe from the City Planning Commission to discuss the Inclusive Growth Strategy for the city. In May 2019, the Kenney Administration released, “Growing with Equity: Philadelphia’s Vision for Inclusive Growth.” Economic growth is essential to ensuring increased economic opportunities for Philadelphians, yet it must be fostered intentionally to promote inclusion. Recognizing that Philadelphia is in the midst of a transformative moment, this collective call to action is built on three goals: Grow the economy to create family-sustaining jobs for all Philadelphians. Prepare Philadelphia for jobs that pay family-sustaining wages. Encourage equitable growth in neighborhoods without displacement. These goals can only be achieved in partnership with residents, employers, educational institutions, innovators, and political leaders. Join First Deputy Commerce Director, Sylvie Gallier Howard, and Deputy Director for Planning and Development, Eleanor Sharpe, to learn more about “Growing with Equity” and how SBN members can play an important role in promoting inclusive growth that benefits all Philadelphians. Our first guest, Sylvie Gallier Howard, is First Deputy for the City of Philadelphia’s Department of Commerce. Prior to this role, she served as Deputy Chief of Staff to the Deputy Mayor for Economic Development during the Nutter Administration. In addition to supporting day-to-day operations, Ms. Gallier Howard’s responsibilities include communications and marketing, policy, international relations, and rolling out new programs. She has spearheaded several priority initiatives, such as the launch of Kiva City Philadelphia, a zero-interest micro-business loan program, and the City’s successful effort to become the first World Heritage City in the U.S. Recently she also played a lead role in developing Philadelphia’s bid to Amazon for the HQ2 search and is spearheading a global identity process to elevate Philadelphia’s brand internationally. Our second guest, Eleanor Sharpe, is the Deputy Director for Planning and Zoning at the Department of planning, where she coordinates the efforts of each of the commisions within the department – the City Planning Commission, Historical Commission,  and the Art Commission and Zoning Board of Adjustment. She also serves as the Executive Director of the City Planning Commission, a role interconnected with her leadership over the department. SBN’s Entrepreneurs’ Roundtables are members-only. Refreshments and a light breakfast will be provided. Having trouble registering? Make sure you are signed into SBN’s member portal before attempting to register.
