Shelfmap - a webinar on a new wayfinding app, Online, Thursday, 25. June 2020
About this Event
Does your library catalogue provide a map next to the classmark which shows where the item on a shelf is located? Bernard Scaife, our data conversion specialist, conducted a Masters by research on library wayfinding and has created a system called ShelfMap. It is currently being successfully used at Goldsmiths University Library.
Here is an example of a screen which a user who was having trouble understanding classmarks would see:
Title: "Spinoza and the rise of Liberalism" at classmark B3998.F43 - https://app.shelfmap.co.uk/fp_test/fp.php?icode=44KOH&id=12
ShelfMap also helps users with other wayfinding challenges such as finding rooms, PCs, study spaces etc.
Bernard’s research has demonstrated a 39% time saving in finding the stack containing a book and a 33% saving in retrieving the item itself.
We are running short webinars to give librarians an opportunity to learn more from Bernard’s research and take a closer look at how ShelfMap can enhance the user experience. You will learn about how addressing wayfinding issues can reduce barriers that library users can ****.
