Soul Companions: Developing a Hospitality of the Other - Module 4, Online, Saturday, 09. January 2021

Developing hospitality as we learn to journey together.

About this Event

The theme of hospitality demands an ongoing exploration as, I believe, it is at the core of the gospel of Jesus.

The Gospel of John begins his gospel with a story of Jesus’ hospitality. Two disciples of John the Baptist see Jesus walking along the road, and curious, they follow him. Jesus turns around and asks, “What do you want?” His question goes beyond why they were following him, to the heart of who they are. “What are you looking for? What do you need? What are you lacking in your life?” Jesus could have given them a house number when they ask him where He was staying, but, seeing the deeper nature of the question, Jesus invites them to “Come and see.” Hospitality is understood as “inviting the stranger,” “creating space in our homes and in our hearts to receive “the other.” It is a way of being in the world yet, somehow, we have lost it.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Understand more deeply Christ's hospitality.
  • Consider Christ's hospitality and how it impacted on others.
  • Discover creative ways to share hospitality to strangers.

Special Note:

As Tyndale Seminary’s programs have had to move online due to the pandemic, the Spiritual Formation Centre Certificate Programs are no exception. Although the in-person classroom is the preferred experience, the online curriculum for this certificate program module promises to be truly immersive. While maintaining important elements of community through live streaming, conversations will be enhanced by independent study in preparation for each session. Online programming will also offer the opportunity for others to participate who would have otherwise not been able to do to distance and time restrictions.

The platform for the live streaming will be Zoom. Once registered and closer to the date, details concerning the format of the module and Zoom link will be sent to you.
