Increasing demand, insufficient capacity, and idling vehicles at existing border crossings in the San Diego-Baja California region cost the United States and Mexico billions of dollars in foregone economic output each year and have a major impact on air quality. To address this problem, a binational, multi-agency group is working aggressively to expedite the construction of an innovative port of entry to reduce border wait times. The State Route 11 (SR 11)/Otay Mesa East POE Project in the United States will create a fast, predictable, and state-of-the-art port of entry serving both personal and commercial vehicles.
