The 28ERS & CVID | Kermés Fundraiser for Immigrant Solidarity, 17386 Sage Ave, Riverside, CA 92504-5902, United States, Saturday, 28. March 2020

-|- THE 28ERS & THE COACHELLA VALLEY IMMIGRANT COALITION (CVID) PRESENT -|-KERMÉS FUNDRAISER FOR IMMIGRANT SOLIDARITYThe 28ers' Fatima and Juan Baldelomar have graciously offered their ranch home up in service for those in desperate need: namely, the immigrants now trapped and denied basic rights to human dignity in Trumpster Fire's Concentration Camp along the the U.S.-Mexican border. These victims of white supremacy and settler-colonialism need to know that there are many Americans who refuse to remain silent to these crimes against humanity. Fatima and Juan won't be doing this alone: The 28ers and our growing roster of student activists will be helping to put on this Kermés (Latin American BBQ festival) fundraiser to aid our beloved asylum-seekers in attaining their legal, food and shelter rights. We not only want to entertain and dine you in an act of mutual aid, but we also want to educate folks about how money in politics--and our Pay-to-Play political system is deeply connected to this for-profit system of concentration camps, and how the people and companies directly tied to Trump's regime are profiting off of human misery. We also hope to use this event to get folks registered and educated them about where the current crop of Presidential candidates stand on immigration, DACA and OR ENTRY-DOOR TICKET PRICES FOR EVENT:FOOD ---> $10.00 per person and/or plate. Your BBQ plate will include a main course, side-dishes as well as the desserts on hand. How to buy tickets in advance (or just donate) will be explained later in the next ---> Water will be freely available because it's a human right (and because our Bolivian hosts know from personal experience how grotesque water-privatization is). However, other tastier drinks (including agua frescas) can be purchased for a small, but additional price that can be paid at the event DO THE FUNDS GO?As with any charity fundraiser, whether online or off, folks have concerns about how effective their donations will be and whose hands will be holding those donations. After being reimbursed for the event costs associated with set-up and food, The 28ers and Coachella Valley Immigrant Dignity Coalition have agreed to donate the funds to frontline organizations doing the real work of sustaining the lives and dignity of our asylum-seekers. BRING YOUR KIDS!We hope to have a jumper and craft table at our Kermés fundraiser, so feel free to bring your kids to the event along with yourselves. {No kid dropoff! JAJA!)PROGRAM SCHEDULE:T.B.A.We are currently in the process of getting well-known performers and musicians to perform at our first-ever Kermés. We also hope to have activists and community organizers speak to this massive crisis that only seems to worsen by the Share & Care This Event With Others! ARE THE 28ERS? WHAT DO WE WANT?__________________________________________________________________Formed from the ashes of Occupy Riverside, The 28ers took form in 2012. It functions is a post-partisan justice movement that is horizontal and grassroots orientated, and frequently joins forces with other organizations, communities and kindred spirits to evoke the change that America never knew it needed in the first place. While much of our work involves organizing monthly events on the intersection of money in politics to every fraught issue in America, the longterm vision of our movement calls for a 28th Amendment to end pay-to-play politics and create exclusive public financing for all federal elections. We want a "one-vote, one-voice" democracy by creating a 4th branch of government to oversee, audit and distribute campaign contributions. To do this, we created our own 28th Amendment that was envisioned, drafted and revised over a four-month period in 2013. Our Amendment calls for a National Holiday on the election date, and creates a monetary lottery system that rewards voter participation. The amendment, though, is ultimately a people-powered act of legislation that aims to ban corporations as humans, money as speech, and requires all federal elections to be publicly funded, exclusively.A 28th Amendment that Will Forever Sever Private Wealth from Politics; and to Reverse the Harms of the 1% Done to Our Education, Healthcare, Unions & Worker Wages, Races, Immigrant Rights and the Environment. Our Amendment Calls for a One-Voice, One-Vote Democracy and Involves the Following:1) A Fourth Branch of Government that Oversees, Audits and Distributes Campaign Funds to Successful Candidates Based on Public Financing from Volunteer-Only Signatures; Branch Auditors Are Directly Elected by the Public.2) Proclaims that Money Is Not Speech;3) Corporations Are Not People;4) To Encourage Voting, Citizens Who Vote on Election Day Are Immediately Entered into Lottery Where 50 Folks Per State Win $100,000, Tax Free. So Who Pays? The Money Is Taken Entirely from Congressional Pay!5) And Lastly, Our Amendment Calls for a National Holiday on Election Day.In passing our Amendment, we hope to redress the harms of the 1%, which has held our democracy hostage from the very beginning of our nation's history. We hope you will join us in this "movement of movements."FOR MORE INFO ABOUT THE 28ERS, CLICK THESE LINKS: Our Student Chapter at UC Riverside: SHARE & CARE THIS EVENT WITH OTHERS:
