The Franciscan Legacy & Aloha Qigong Day Retreat, Vallombrosa Center, Saturday, 03. October 2020

Drawing from Judeo-Christian and Taoist practices and grounded in Franciscan awareness, this retreat invites you into a daylong experience of embodied prayer. You will learn Qigong practices and the Aloha Qigong form for grounding and centering in earth and for anchoring your spiritual quest in body-awareness. Through reflection and dialogue, we will explore the ethical dimensions of eco-spirituality, environmental stewardship, and inequality. Join Rev. Steve Harms and Kaleo and Elise Ching in this journey of deepening our connection to the Divine Source and our care for our common home, Mother Earth.
Pastor Steve Harms has an Masters of Divinity (M.Div) and his MA in Theatre Arts, and his years in ministry have taken him from the streets of the Tenderloin in San Francisco to the streets of Danville. Steve has previously served as the President of the Interfaith Council of Contra Costa County and remains actively engaged in deepening Interfaith connections within the community. Pr. Steve provides compassionate pastoral care and is a gifted preacher who enjoys creative worship. Steve has maintained a long-standing involvement in and passion for justice advocacy and is a teacher of Tai Chi Chuan. Steve and Bev have three sons. Theologically empowered within his own tradition, he feels free to explore, learn about, encourage and celebrate other faith traditions.
Kaleo and Elise Ching have developed a process that engages the body, mind, and spirit. This inner alchemical process entices one to enter into the subconscious realm of the body through Chi Kung and hypnotherapy/guided imagery, then to express its deep wisdom through creative art forms. The process promotes self awareness, empowerment, and the transformation of self and community. They have extensive teaching experiences in the Bay Area at John F. Kennedy University (Arts and Consciousness Department), Wisdom University, LucasFilms, Acupressure Institute, Chi Nei Tsang Institute, Luminous Body Integral School of Energy Medicine, California Institute of Integral Studies (Public Programs), Sofia University, Naropa University-Oakland, Haight Ashbury Free Clinic Jail Psychiatric Services, and University of Creation Spirituality, as well as nationally and internationally. As artist and poet, they have exhibited their work together at such institutions as Claudia Chapline Gallery, Reno Arts and Culture Commission, Matrix Gallery, Euphrat Museum of Art, Los Angeles Korean Art Center, San Luis Obispo Art Gallery, John F. Kennedy University Gallery, and many other venues.
