The U.S. Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps is hosting a virtual Solo & Ensemble Festival! This is an opportunity to submit a virtual performance to receive feedback from judges and be potentially featured on our social media platforms!
This Solo & Ensemble Festival will be open to any fifer or drummer of any age who would like to put together a solo or group performance and submit a video for feedback. The deadline for submissions is November 1st, 2020. Additionally, if any fifer or drummer would like to receive a coaching for one-on-one instruction prior to the video submission, we will have Soldiers available on a first-come-first-served basis.

How to Register:
If you want to submit a solo, please click "Register" and then click "As an individual".
If you want to submit an ensemble, all members need to register. (The first person to register the group will need to create an Eventbrite login!) Please click "Register", and then click "As a group". On the next page, the first person to register should click "Create your group". Once the group is created, the other members can search for the group by name by entering the name in the "Enter your group name" field and register for that ensemble.

Virtual Solo and Ensemble Festival By-Laws 2020
a. Participants will register via EventBrite; link is posted on the
Corps’ Facebook page. All performances will be submitted as video
recordings. Once a video is ready for submission, participants will
upload the video to YouTube with an “Unlisted” or “Public” privacy
setting (see Appendix A). Then, submit the link to the video via the
Google Form which will be sent via email and is available on our
b. Videos should be no more than 5 minutes in length, and should
be recorded in one take. No post-production editing is permitted. The
use of A Capella or other similar split-screen apps is not permitted.
c. Drum videos can be performed on drums or pads.
d. Registration opens August 15, 2020. Deadline for registration

a. The adjudication panel will be comprised of current Old Guard
Fife and Drum Corps Members and Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps
b. Feedback will be given in the form of comments sheets and
individual ratings. Participants will not be compared with other
submissions, but will be given a rating of their performance by the
c. The adjudication panel will select submissions of outstanding
quality as “Featured Performers” to be highlighted on the Old Guard
Fife and Drum Corps social media pages in the month of January,
with the permission of the performer(s). The objective is to
acknowledge submissions that go above and beyond to display a high
level of performance excellence or stand out in some other unique
way. Every individual of a selected Small Ensemble must give
approval for their video to be shared on social media. Selections will
be made at the discretion of the adjudicators.
d. Feedback will be sent via email by Sunday, November 15,
a. There are 3 Divisions: Solo Fife, Solo Drum (Snare or Bass),
and Small Ensemble--Fife(s) and/or Drum(s)
b. Individuals may perform in multiple Divisions or in multiple
submissions of the same Division. There is no limit to the number of
submissions in which an individual can participate.
III. Coaching Sessions
a. All participants can choose to register for an optional program
which provides virtual meetings with a current Old Guard Fife and
Drum Corps member (Coach). The objective is to help with
preparation for the Solo and Ensemble Festival.
b. Solo participants will receive 1 or more virtual private lessons
with their assigned Coach.
c. Small Ensembles will receive 1 or more virtual coaching
sessions from a Coach. Please be prepared to schedule your sessions
with all members of your performing ensemble.
d. Coachings will be scheduled at the convenience of the Coach
and Participant(s). No more than one lesson per week is guaranteed.
e. Coachings will be available during the months of September
and October and are not expected to continue past November 1, 2020.
