Welcome to the Richmond, Virginia US CoffeeChamps Prelims hosted by Blanchard's Coffee Roasting Co.!
We're excited to welcome coffee friends from throughout the US to join us in Richmond, Virginia for a weekend of coffee competition in the Barista, Brewers Cup, and Coffee in Good Spirits catetories. 
In addition to competition, there will be events, throwdowns, coffee shop crawls, educational opportunities, and of course, parties to occupy your time. Richmond's coffee scene is rich, diverse, and worth exploring, so come ready to get caffeinated, make new friends, and maybe go home a champion!
There are multiple ways to participate in CoffeeChamps Prelims:

Compete: Register for one or more competition category ($20 per registration).
Volunteer: Volunteers make the event run smoothly! Get close to the action and all your coffee friends! (free)
Judge: Volunteer to judge one of the competition categories. (free)
Spectator: Just come to see what its all about. Registration is not required for spectators and general admission to events is free, but if you would like to receive up-to-date information about competition schedules, events, and happenings throughout the weekend, please register as a spectator.

When & Where?All Richmond, Virginia US CoffeeChamps Prelims competitions and events will be held in the historic Scott's Addition neighborhood. There will be two competition locations with a shuttle for transport between each:

ConductWe, here, do not support discrimination of any kind and expect the same level of conduct from all attendees, Competitors, and Judges at our event. In participating, you agree to respect your Host, Judges, Volunteers and all your fellow Competitors. We, as the Host, reserve the right to ask anyone not adhering to our Standards of Conduct to forfeit their place in our Preliminary event and leave the premises. Please review the SCA Code of Conduct
Who can compete?

We welcome and encourage all people aged 18 years or older to participate, regardless of their color, cultural background, ethnicity, class, gender, sexual orientation, religion or spirituality, or any other identity

Registration will be limited to 24 Barista Competitors, 16 Brewers Cup Competitors, and 12 Coffee in Good Spirits Competitors for a total of 52 competition slots.

The registration fee for the Richmond, Virginia CoffeeChamps Prelims is $20 per competition and registrations will be accepted on a first come first served basis

Competitors do not need to be residents of Virginia to participate, but they must hold a valid U.S. Passport or have 24 months of documented employment or scholastic curriculum in the United States of America.

Equipment, Wares, & CoffeeAs a Preliminary event Host, we are providing all coffee, wares and equipment! Competitors may bring their own wares and grinder, if you would like. However, these will be provided by the Host and available for you to use. Below, you will find lists of equipment provided for each competition.

The Host will provide competitors with a choice of 2 or more coffees for Service.

Competitors will select 1 of these coffees to brew and present to the judges during Service or competitors may select 2 or more coffees to blend together.

Coffee for use in the competition will be provided by 2 or more different companies.

Prior to the start of competition, the Host will conduct a blind coffee selection tasting for Competitors to choose coffee(s) for Service. Basic information about the coffees (origin, processing method) will be provided to the Competitors after they have selected their coffee(s)

Competitors must use one of the 2 or more provided compulsory coffees

Competition wares and brewing devices will be provided, but Competitors may utilize any set of brewing devices or wares of their choosing, as long as they qualify according to the rules.

Accomodations and Attractions:For information about hotels, check out the Visit Richmond site. "Downtown" hotels will be closest. There is also a vibrant community of AirBnB hosts in the area.
Richmond has an award winning food scene with tons of great restaurants and dining experiences to fit just about any preference or budget. Read more about the Richmond Dining sceent here, and by all means ASK! We love showing off our favorite spots in town for great food.
