WINTER 2020 BLENDED ONLINE COMMUNITY PARAMEDIC (CP) COURSE - ANN ARBOR, MI, Huron Valley Ambulance, Wednesday, 08. January 2020

The Community Paramedic (CP) course is a 256 hour course approved by the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services which includes 64 hours of hospital clinical and 60 hours of internship on an approved CPR response vehicle.  The course provides the information and experience necessary to preapre the paramedic student to assist in the quality of life through the process of addressing minor chronic health related problems.  
Community Paramedics respond to non-critical patient needs with the goal of treating patients in-home and keeping them out of the Emergency Department when possible. Examples of patient care Community Paramedics handle include foley catheter change, wound care, central lines, ostomy care, wellness education, and end-of-life care.
The course will cover, but is not limited to:

Expanded patient assessment
Drawing in home lab values
Utilizing Doppler ultrasound
Obtaining cultures for evaluation of infections
Treating patients in their home with specialty needs i.e. central lines, ostomy care, urinary catheters, trach care, etc.
Wound care assessment
Wellness education and resource allocation
Addressing chronic care issues
Addressing end of life care

The Community Paramedic program is ideal for paramedics who are drawn to compassionate patient care, building relationships with patients, and acting as a liaison between patients and health and welfare service providers.

NOTE: The Community Paramedic (CP) program is available to licensed paramedics with AT LEAST THREE YEARS OF FULL-TIME EMS ADVANCED LEVEL EXPERIENCE, WITH A LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION FROM AN AFFILIATED HEALTHCARE PROVIDER AND/OR CURRENT HEALTHCARE EMPLOYER.

ONLINE LEARNING
NOTE: This is a blended online program - partial classroom and partial online learning.  THE FIRST CLASS IS MANDATORY AND ALL STUDENTS MUST REPORT TO THEIR SELECTED LEARNING LOCATION FOR THE FIRST CLASS SESSION! All labs and practical sessions are also mandatory and students must report to their selected learning location in-person on the following WEDNESDAYS for these sessions: 1/8/20, 2/5/20, 2/19/20, 3/4/20, 3/11/20, 3/18/20, 3/25/20, 4/15/20, 5/13/20, 5/27/20, and 6/10/20. All students will receive a course outline on the first day of class which details all of this information.  All other lectures and assignments will be completed online with specified deadlines.  Monday sessions will be reserved for online lectures and webinars which will be archived for students to watch if they can not be attended "live".

CLASSROOM LEARNING - MAIN CAMPUS AND SATELLITE LEARNING LOCATIONS
Students will need to select a location at the time of registration for where they would like to report for all of their classroom learning and labs. Students can choose to attend at the Main Campus or our satellite location in Petoskey, MI (listed below).  The satellite location will be monitored with an instructor and/or assigned lab help and students will be able to participate in real time via the web with the instructor and the students enrolled at HVA Main's campus at 1200 State Circle in Ann Arbor, MI.

TOTAL TUITION = $2,700.00  (PLEASE NOTE: Tuition does NOT include any of the following: Textbooks, other supplies such as stethoscope, protective eye wear, watch, TB mask, or waist-length white lab coat, etc. or the mandatory drug screen or background check. Further information below regarding these additional costs, approx. $450).

TUITION & FEES
All tuition and fees are due upon registration. All registrations are first come, first enrolled! Students who do not have a credit card to complete the registration process online, must register for class and make payment in person at HVA’s EMS Education, 1200 State Circle, Ann Arbor, MI. The deadline to register for any program is TWO WEEKS prior to class, no exceptions, providing spaces are available!
NOTE: HVA’S EMS Education retains the right to deny any application, for any reason. If the school denies the application of a student before the first day of class, all tuition and fees paid will be refunded.  There are NO REFUNDS for course supplies, including textbooks, uniforms, required equipment, or costs incurred for background checks and drug screens. 
ALL TUITION FEES paid by the applicant shall be refunded if requested in writing within three (3) business days after registering for any HVA sponsored course.
Otherwise, if a student withdraws or is dismissed from the program for any reason AFTER the 3 business days following registration, they will be responsible for payment according to the following schedule:  

Students who withdraw two weeks prior to the start of class/module for any EMS course will receive a full refund of the course tuition, less a $25 administration fee.  The student must notify HVA EMS Education department in writing. 
Students who fail to give at least two weeks notice (in writing), or who fail to withdraw prior to the start of the (2nd) second week of class, will forfeit 25% of the total course tuition. 
After the start of any EMS course, any student who fails to withdraw prior to the start of the (3rd) third week of class, will forfeit 100% of the total course tuition.  

All refunds are returned within 30 days.
