MLK Day of Service with City Year 1/21

From Cityyear.org As a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of service to others, City Year considers Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day as a day ‘on’, not ‘off’. During the annual national observance, City Year mobilizes its AmeriCorps members and thousands of volunteers for a day of service in communities across the nation. In coordination with local partners, City Year AmeriCorps members and volunteers engage in service projects that include painting schools, beautifying neighborhoods and parks, serving in soup kitchens, supporting senior citizens, and running educational activities for children. Because City Year is an education nonprofit, most of our MLK Service Day projects involve helping turn schools into more engaging, educational and vibrant places for students to learn and play. We know that one of Dr. King’s most compelling visions was that of a Beloved Community – a community in which people of different backgrounds recognize that we are all interconnected and that our individual well-being is inextricably linked to the well-being of others. City Year believes serving our communities on Martin Luther King Jr. Day is one of the best ways to honor this vision.
